The Swiss-funded Groundwater Management, Use and Protection Program (GWP) financed by the Swiss Government aims at supporting North Macedonia in establishing a sustainable long-term, multilevel, and systematic groundwater management that enables collaborative, effective, and more transparent use of the groundwater resources.

On behalf of our clients Skat Consulting Ltd., a leading Swiss company specialized in international cooperation and is committed to making available basic services and ensuring dignified living conditions and healthy living environment for all, and PointPro Consulting d.o.o., a leading management consulting company based in Skopje incorporating two business areas: Infrastructure and Sustainable Development and Management Consulting and Corporate Finance, DEKRA is looking for:

  • HYDROLOGICAL MONITORING PROFESSIONAL

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Support the preparations for the upcoming trainings provided by the recognized water monitoring experts and take lead role coordinated by the Head of Sector for Hydrology in the HMS in organizing the logistics of the trainings;
  • Act as a participant in the trainings who will acquire the necessary technical knowledge and assist its integration in the HMS’s future water monitoring programs;
  • Take part in field missions as part of the training, as well as future pilot monitoring programs;
  • Take part in field missions as part of the HMS team;
  • Support well discharge measurements;
  • Support spring discharge measurements;
  • Support the collection, storage and maintenance of the monitoring databases in the HMS (Hydrology and Water Quality Sectors), as well as any new Program-backed improvements;
  • Engage in trainings together with HMS staff on interpretation of monitoring results for different purposes (e.g., characterization of water bodies in line with the EU regulations and standards);
  • Work to transfer practical (new) knowledge among HMS technical and professional staff.

Provide other support to HMS on hydrological water monitoring programs, including:

  • Support to developing field trip plans, identification of appropriate hydrometric equipment for conducting analysis and interpretation of results;
  • Communicate results of the analyses with the Head of Sector for Hydrology and provide follow-up recommendations;
  • Fully engage in ensuring that monitoring programs are properly implemented;
  • Preparation of data series for modelling;
  • Take part together with staff from Hydrological Sector in training for well discharge measurements with flow meters and other instruments and methods;
  • Take part together with staff from Hydrological Sector in training for Design of schematic vertical cross-section and design of Potentiometric Surface Maps;
  • Take part together with staff from Hydrological Sector in training for analysis of groundwater-surface water relationship, analysis of recharge from precipitation, climatic change, anthropogenic and evaporation influence on the groundwater system;
  • Take part together with staff from Hydrological Sector in training for modern groundwater monitoring system with online presentation on the HMS WEB Site;
  • Take part in design of methods, calibration curves, preparation of the Batch tables, Quality Control, report preparation, and interpretation of results;
  • Support to quality control, assessment of errors in measurement (uncertainty), results from the calculation, preparation of the report, and result interpretation;
  • Take part and support to organization of investigative water monitoring as per possible requests of the SEI, in coordination with Head of Sector for Hydrology;
  • Support the improvement of water monitoring data collection & storage, and maintenance of the related databases;
  • Provide support with Hydrological reporting, to both national and international institutions in coordination with Head of Sector for Hydrology according to relevant legislations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in civil engineering, or geological engineering, or hydrogeological engineering, or natural sciences, or mechanical engineering or environmental engineering;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Macedonian;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (at least B2 level CEFR - equivalent);
  • General computer literacy and solid knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office. 
  • Ability to coordinate smoothly with multiple parties;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and reporting skills;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work;
  • Organized, responsible and understands confidentiality;
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
