Company Description

Smidgin Gin is Macedonia’s first craft gin, launched in December 2021. At our distillery in the historic MCM building we create an ultra-premium gin, hand made in a copper pot still using fresh ingredients.  As we move into 2022, we have big plans to launch additional flavours of gin and to offer tours of the distillery and gin making courses.

Job Description

The Distillery Intern is an integral member of the distillery team. The right candidate will be flexible to changes in their responsibilities, hardworking with a ‘can-do’ attitude, and consider themselves to be a team player. This team member will be responsible for day-to-day cycle of production in keeping the production schedule in line with all orders and distribution schedules. The Distillery Intern will also be helping to place the gin into bottles, prepare customer orders for shipment, and meet customers at the distillery when they collect their orders, keeping the distillery clean and functional, managing inventory, and helping ensure regulatory compliance.

As one of the Distillery Intern’s responsibilities will be assisting Smidgin’s distiller in preparing batches of gin, testing, and monitoring the alcohol levels and quality checking. As we evolve, the Distillery Intern may also have an opportunity to lead tours of the distillery and lead / participate in gin education training courses for the public, and for bartenders and key clients.  We also have several events planned for this spring and summer at bars, restaurants, and pop-ups which the Distillery Intern will participate in.

After successful internship period, there is a possibility for employment in the Distillery.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Ability to manage the day-to-day cycle of production in keeping the production schedule in line with all orders and distribution schedules
  • Maintain all equipment owned and operated by the company
  • Clean and rinse equipment used for the production of spirits
  • Assist in all production aspects, including mashing, fermenting, and distilling spirits, as well as bottling, labelling, and packaging finished products
  • Assist in lab analysis, sample cataloguing, and track compliance data for all distilled spirits produced on site
  • Assist in filling, weighing, gauging, labelling.
  • Order production materials based on needs and budget constraints
  • Assist in data entry to ensure accurate and up-to-date records for storage, production, and processing of all spirits

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school or equivalent, or higher education (preferred)
  • Education pertaining to chemistry and/or microbiology is a plus
  • No previous experience is required, but will be preferred.  Full training will be provided.
  • Proven ability to work with little to no supervision and be able to follow directions precise

As an Intern you will have the opportunity to lean the full distilling, bottling, and packaging process as well as learn how to create new gin flavours and occasional limited-edition gins such as barrel aged. “Curious? Let’s turn visions into realities, together!
