Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Embassy in Republic North Macedonia is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit an Administrative Support Officer.
The main purpose of the role will be to provide professional office administration and support for a visually impaired member of the Embassy staff. The duties will be that of an Executive Assistant (EAs) with some additional tasks in the areas of project management and outreach to meet the specific needs of the visually impaired person you are supporting.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diary management; managing e-mail traffic, e.g. prioritising the in-box; preparing expense claims; organising meetings/events; taking records of meetings; assisting with paperwork; transactional processing, including budget monitoring; and providing a high-quality customer service.
- Guiding the staff member you are supporting to and from meetings and events both inside the office and around Skopje and the country; assisting with building relationships and networks; proof-read material before it is issued; provide quick ad-hoc translations from and into Macedonian or Albanian.
- Other ad hoc tasks.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- 5 GCSEs, grades A* – C, including English and Maths (or equivalent) / Macedonian grammar school certificate;
- Demonstrable IT skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint. Social media skills would also be an advantage;
- A can-do, positive, enthusiastic attitude;
- Attention to detail, able to use their initiative with the aim of delivering a high quality service;
- Strong interpersonal skills and a good team player;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Macedonian;
- Flexible and adaptable.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience in providing administrative support in an office environment is desirable but not essential. More important is a willingness to learn and adapt to the requirements of the role.

This is a full-time contract with a duration of 24 months.
The British Embassy has an active learning and development culture and there will be opportunities for informal training and shadowing.
The expected start date is 19 December 2022 however the job holder should be available to start as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Skopje are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local (Republic of North Macedonia) employment law.
