Role Summary:
The Graduate Technical Author is responsible for contributing to the Documentation team in the creation of high-quality release notes, user guides and quick-reference guides.
The successful applicant needs exemplary English language skills, including an in-depth knowledge of grammar and style, and must be able to explain complex ideas in simple ways.
We deliver our documentation in many different languages, so the successful applicant must be able to produce content that is easy to translate.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Documentation team, the Global R&D team, and other key stakeholders to ensure that our documentation meets the needs of our users in the UK and internationally.
Responsibilities:
- Support the documentation team in producing high-quality release notes, user guides and quick-reference guides for all products in our HealthSuite.
- Learn to produce documentation that meets four key criteria.
- Complete: Documentation is complete on time to meet the general availability dates.
- Accurate: Documentation accurately describes the enhancements of the product development teams in a customer-facing language.
- Consistent: Documentation is consistent with technical writing best practices and internal style guides.
- Clear: Documentation is simple and unambiguous to allow for easy translation in multiple languages.
- Work on key documentation projects to ensure that we deliver a joined-up experience to all of our users.
- Work with customer-facing teams to ensure that we meet the documentation needs of our customers.
Skills/Qualifications Required:
Essential:
- Exemplary language skills, including an understanding of the grammatical constructions that Technical Authors should avoid (like onion sentences and passive voice).
- Ability to write specialist content for non-specialist audiences.
- Ability to structure information logically.
- Ability to give concise, unambiguous instructions.
- High levels of accuracy in a clear, simple language.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar concepts quickly.
- Excellent IT skills and a strong technical aptitude.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with the technical writing style.
- Knowledge in HATs (Help Authoring Tools) such as Flare, oXygen or similar.
- Knowledge in with CAT tools (Computer Aided Translation), such as Lingo, Trados, Passolo or similar.
- Experience producing content to be translated into different languages.
- Experience living or studying in an English-speaking country.
Interpersonal Requirements:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, online, over the phone, and in person.
- Ability to work to deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to work with a global company.
- Ability to work flexibly with multiple teams.
Education:
- Degree in English language, linguistics, or translation, OR
- Final year of undergraduate studies in English language, linguistics, or translation.
