Azure Data Engineer
Location: Branch office Skopje / North Macedonia
SOS Children’s Villages International (www.sos-childrensvillages.org) is the umbrella organization for 133 SOS Children’s Villages associations worldwide.
As a non-governmental social development organization, it helps children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and advocacy for children’s rights.
SOS Children’s Villages International is headquartered in Austria.
Purpose of the position
As a Data Engineer with SOS Children’s Villages International you will be responsible for sourcing and integrating data on a global scale. With 133 member nations and territories we offer truly a global work environment. You will be a part of the Global Data Team that consists of a supervisor and 2 colleagues located in Vienna, Austria.
What you will be working?
You will be working on our cloud-based (Azure) Data Lakehouse with all the latest Microsoft Azure services in the data engineering realm – Data Factory, Databricks, Functions, Web Apps and Storage to name just a few. Besides the data engineering part, we also consult on and implement data science projects using the entire Python data science ecosystem and R.
You must have strong Python and SQL skills, as you will need both languages daily. Also a willingness to learn specialized and exciting technologies like PySpark is required. Traditional software engineering with C# utilizing the .NET framework is an optional field to work in. Basic knowledge of PowerBI and DAX is a great plus.
On a day-to-day basis you will monitor, fix, expand and create Azure Data Factory pipelines, write Databricks notebooks in Python and SQL, align with customers on change requests, features and bugs. As well as supporting them in their data analysis.
Skills
Languages:
- Experience in SQL and Python on a level to work independently is mandatory.
- Familiarity with C# is nice to have.
Frameworks:
- At least introductory level experience with PySpark is desired.
Azure Stack:
- Intermediate proficiency in Azure Data Factory is desired, but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with Azure Storage, Azure Functions, Azure Databricks, and Dataverse is a plus.
Tooling:
- Proficiency in using Git.
- Nice to have: Experience with Azure DevOps Pipelines.
Experience and background
- University degree in IT would be a plus
- Relevant experience in data engineering is required
- Fluent in English
